Boiler cover is a policy that you can purchase to protect your boiler in the event that it breaks down. It can provide you with the assurance that if your boiler fails, a gas-safety registered engineer will assess and attempt to repair the problem.
Some boiler cover policies also include boiler servicing, which means that an engineer will service your boiler on an annual basis to ensure it is in good working order.
A boiler insurance policy can also assist with:
- Repairs to central heating systems
- Repairs to the plumbing and drainage systems
- Electrical installation
- Pests Infestation
How does it work?
You’ll be covered for boiler repairs, which typically include labour and replacement parts, along with any bells and whistles included in the policy. However, based on your provider, the insurance may operate differently:
There could be a time limit on how long the engineer can work on repairs.
You may also be limited in the number of claims you can report per year.
There may be a waiting period after you purchase your policy during which you will not be able to make a claim.
If your boiler is too old or cannot be repaired economically, it may be excluded from insurance.
Do I need boiler Insurance cover?
Home insurance or Landlord Insurance policies may include boiler insurance. So, before purchasing another policy, check to see if you already have insurance in place. If you rent, your landlord should ultimately be responsible for boiler cover, though you may be able to get your own policy if your landlord agrees.
It’s always a good idea to get boiler insurance as boiler repair can be very expensive. So, unless you’re willing to risk expensive call our fees or being without heat or hot water, we’d recommend purchasing a boiler cover at the earliest opportunity.
