Why We Created Crafts Cymru: A New Home for Welsh Makers
When people ask us why we created Crafts Cymru, the answer goes much deeper than business. It began with a shared vision between two friends who believed Welsh Arts deserved a stage that reflected the richness of our culture, heritage, and talent. Sadly, one of those friends passed away before the idea could come to life. Building Crafts Cymru is our way of honouring that vision and ensuring Welsh Crafts are celebrated, not forgotten.
The Heart of Welsh Craft
Wales has always been a nation of creativity. From traditional wool, slate, and pottery to contemporary glasswork, jewellery, and digital designs, makers here blend heritage with innovation. Yet despite this vibrant community, many craftspeople struggle to find the right audience. Large global platforms often bury their work under mass-produced items, leaving small businesses overlooked.
We felt this gap needed to be filled. There should be a marketplace that doesn’t just sell products but also tells the stories behind them—the stories of Welsh culture, history, and identity.
